What a gable louver is
A gable louver, printed as “louvre” on Spectis catalog plates, is the vent or the decorative face in the vertical wall at the end of a gable roof. It is not a ridge vent, not a soffit vent, and not a roof turbine. It fills the triangle, arch, half-round, or peak under the rake, where the attic or the room behind that wall meets the outside.
Spectis Moulders Inc. molds the slats, rails, and keystones in high-density polyurethane, so the profile stays crisp without cutting it from wood. Veritas Products sells the line at spectis.us. This page is not the manufacturer and does not hold stock. Open louvers leave a passage between the slats so air can move. Closed louvers keep the outer shape and use a solid face, for a wall that should look like a vent and not act as one. Order the function you framed.
Where they go
Installers set them on house gables, garage peaks, dormer faces, and attic end walls. An open louver belongs in a framed opening when that gable is part of how the attic breathes. A closed louver belongs where the wall is already sealed, or where the elevation only needs the profile: a porch gable, an interior feature wall, or a peak finished as decoration.
The part beds against the opening the way other primed millwork does. PL Premium polyurethane adhesive, listed by the store as PLP100, goes on every bedding joint and every butt joint. Finish nails or screws hold the piece while that adhesive sets. Nails, screws, and adhesive are sold separately. The plates say PLP100 must be used on all bedding and butt joints, because a different adhesive can attack the urethane. The category also includes an attic access door with an open louver face, LOAD 2231, 22 by 31, when the gable needs both a service opening and the vent profile.
Material and paint
The material is water-impervious high-density polyurethane for interior and exterior. Installed properly, it does not rot, warp, or crack when it stays wet, and it resists insects such as termites. It is lighter than most solid wood of the same size and about as dense as pine, so it cuts, nails, glues, and screws like millwork. Pieces leave the Manitoba plant factory primed — double primed white on the USA store’s description, primed white and ready to paint or stain on the plates. Clean the surface before coating an exterior piece. You are not painting raw polyurethane.
